Default Work experience - full time work definition - Andrew Miller

Good morning!!

I need an expert advise and hence I request Andrew or any other
capable persons to reply.

This is my first message in this group. I wish to immigrate to canada
on skilled worker category and I have a question in this regard. I am
a chartered accountant and a commerce graduate from India.

I did my graduation (3 years) in full time studies and it constitutes
15 years of education. I have started my chartered accountancy course
(from my 2nd year of graduation) which requires correspondense study
and getting trained under an experienced chartered accountant for
three years. I have worked 35 hours a week (as required by the
institute of chartered accountants of India) as a trainee and was paid
a monthly remuneration too. In the first 2 years of my training I used
to work after college hours. In the third year as I already finished
my graduation, I used to work in the morning to evening hours ( but
still working only 35 hours a week).

This means that I have served for 1 year as trainee after completion
of my graduation. Now for my immigration points in education criteriea
I need to mention graduation as my full time studies to score 22
points and my chartered accoutancy degree will not increase my points
any further. Can I consider the one years as a trainee post
graduation as my work exerience for immigration purposes which will
enable me to score additional points in work experience category?

Thanks and best regards,
Kapil

If well documented then all 3 years of your work (as long as it was paid job
in skilled occupation) may be counted as experience, although you'll have to
convert it to full time equivalent using 37.5 hours per week as full time,
so it will be less than 3 years.

Thanks Mr Miller,

Please clarify one more thing. As I was taking my chartered
accountancy articled training along with my graduation course, is
there not any requirement of obtaining work experience after
graduation? From the note you have written it suggests that the work
expeience during my graduation can be counted for immigration.

No, it is not the requirement. All paid work experience in skilled
occupations within past 10 years counts, regardless if it was before or
after graduation and regardless if it was in the same field as you education
or not.
