Are you thinking of doing this as a day trip, with your luggage, and
returning to London in the PM. I think that would not be a relaxing time.
If you are planning on staying in London, dump your bags at the hotel, and
take a relaxing trip down the river Thames. You can head upriver from
Westminster to Kew and Richmond, or downriver to Greenwich (much more
industrial).
If planning Winchester as stepping stone for tour of England in a car. Then
not a bad idea. Depends on route you are planning.
