Which of these Madrid hotels?
Hello,
I'm travelling from Hawaii and am going to be in Madrid in November.
Was wondering if anyone knows which of these hotels would be best to
stay in. I have never been to Madrid but would like to be in an ideal
location for a visit, and not sure which of these (if any) may
accomplish this and hope someone who is familiar with the
neighborhoods can advise. Thank you very much!
1) FLORIDA NORTE, Pº DE LA FLORIDA,5
"In front of the Principe Pio station, close to Plaza de España
square, Gran Via and the Real Palace."
2) OSUNA, LUIS DE LA MATA, 18
3)EGIDO VIA LUSITANA, ANTONIA RODRÃ?GUEZ SACRISTAN, 14
4) TRYP ALCALA 611, ALCALA 611
Thanks in advance and have a great day! The reason I've chosen these
hotels in particular is they are available at a highly discounted rate
with bancotel (50 euros).
Aloha,
pkm

Undoubtedly, your best bet is #1. It's well located, 15 minutes away walking
from Gran Via and the Royal Palace (uphill, though). The Principe Pio subway
and train station is just in front of the hotel. IIRC, it's a four-stars
hotel
#2 is located near the airport and far from any subway station.
#3 is in a far-from-downtown non-touristic area and there are not subway
facilities there, either.
#4 is half way between downtown and the airport. The good news are that the
Canillejas subway station is very close to it. At least, you will have easy
means of transport to get to the touristic interest areas.
So try Hotel Florida Norte and, as a second option, Hotel Tryp Alcala.

These are all pretty bad for a tourist. The Florida Norte is at least
IN Madrid, but it's right next to the train station. But if your
budget says 50 euros, it would be okay.

Re: Which of these Madrid hotels?
All of the distances in Spain are measured from a spot in a square in the
city centre in Madrid, whose name I have forgotten but 100 metres from this
there is a Hotel (mentioned in Rick Stein's travel guide) called the Europa
Hotel. It's in a pedestrianised area of the city very central, VERY clean
and not too expensive, around 50 Euros. I stayed there a couple of times and
found it excellent value, smallish and very friendly and only about 50 or 60
metres to the Metro. You can walk from here to almost anywhere in central
Madrid, including the oldest inn in the world, mentioned in the Guinness
book of world records. Enjoy Madrid but watch out for pickpockets and
thieves, they target people over 50 and there are lots of them, especially
on the Metro. Dan.

I'm with José M. Malo on this one. While not ideally located, Hotel
Florida Norte is the most centrally located hotel of them all. And $50
isn't bad at all.
If you're "sold" on only using your Bancotel coupons, then do #1. But
if you can use those on others you might consider the MOST centrally
located of all those mentioned above, the Hotel Europa @
http://www.hoteleuropa.net . It's located just a stone's TOSS from the
Puerta del Sol and you can't get any more centrally located than that.
A single goes for 52 Euros and a double is 65 Euros. I've heard from
friends that it's "just fine". I've also read it described as "Funky".
Have a great time in Madrid and Spain!

Re: Which of these Madrid hotels?
We stayed at the Europa in 1997 and it was great. The rooms are clean
and roomy, the staff was helpful, there is a sitting room that I guess
you could call funky. Lots of gilt and mirrors and red
velvet.....outrageously fun really. (I have pics i can scan of the
sitting room if anyone is interested.) I think I remember a small
lift as well. Best of all was the location...seconds from Puerta del
Sol, minutes from Plaza Mayor, central to lots of things.

Re: Which of these Madrid hotels?
Thank you for the help everyone. I have decided to book at Hotel
Europa and got a decent double rate facing the inner courtyard
(quieter) for 62 euros.
Aloha and thanks!
