Thanks for your comments George.
There are some interesting
politics here - the implication of your posting is that the Federal
Government is saying "we will decide what is regional," while the
States and Territories will be "left" with the decision as to
whether there are jobs in those regional areas and to sponsor
intending regional skilled visa applicants (and maybe to police
compliance with whatever requirements of the regional visa
eventuate) ... it doesn't make sense to me - if the decision as to
whether to sponsor rests with the State Governments then surely it
should be within their remit to decide what constitutes a regional
area.
And if the Federal Government doesn't bring the State
Governments onside might it be that they simply won't want to "play
ball" with the sponsorship process? What exactly will be the
incentive for the State Governments to sponsor applicants for
temporary skilled visas, when the State Nomination process is still
available, but where most of the State Governments don't even
participate in the State Nominated skilled visas?
Hmmm ... I'm far
from certain all of this has been thought through and agreed with
all interested/affected parties - time will out as we say.
Best
regards.
