Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but what is a pre grant letter?

In one thread, with the pre grant letter was a request for copies of
passports, ours were requested with our meds so would that mean we
won't get a pre grant letter?

I think it really depends on what visa you have applied for. I didn't
get a 'Pre grant letter' - I have applied for a skilled independant visa
136. I did however get a letter stating that I have got my visa and to
send my passport to Australia house.

Maybe the question should have been "why are pre grant letters sent?"
Seems a waste of time and energy if its just to say your visa is to
be granted

Three letters in total were recieved by the DIMIA, these were:

1st Acknowledgement
2nd Medical and Police Check request
3rd Letter stating our visa's have been granted.

STNI - south australia
hubby is a fitter

medicals sent end of august - the waiting is sooooooo frustration as I
am sure you may remember. Can't seem to get anything done at work as I
keep HAVING to check my emails ...... just in case

Definately will have a bottle of red tonight to relax ( wonder if DIMIA
know they are driving me to drink - any excuse hey)

Yes the waiting is very frustrating and it was very difficult to
concentrate at work. If fact, I checked my emails on a regular basis,
every day...you are not alone on this.
