Smile We want to immigrate to Canada but.....

Can anyone help? My partner and I are thinking of immigrating to Canada. We meet all the criteria so far but there is only 1 concern about my partner. 5 years ago he got a ban for 18 months for drink driving and we are really worried that it will affect our application. We don't want to go through everything, be let down by being refused (and the expense). Can anyone give us some idea?

Surely there must be someone who can help, or at least give us an idea of someone to contact to find out!

What country are you in? If you're in the U.S:

He should be able to get an application at the Canadian embassy in the U.S. city he lives in to get his DUI conviction removed from his passport.

I should qualify this. The above applies only if 5 years have passed since he made restitution (i.e. being banned for 18 months).

Not an easy answer. Where are you from? Also, are you a dual national? Most people don't know, but they are. If you have ie) British nationality also, you can use your second passport, and get into Canada with that.

I know someone who has a criminal record but he used his UK passport to go to the USA. They didn't find out and he went. Had he used his Canadian ID, that would not have worked. Just for those who don't know, your criminal record does not transfer to your second nationality. So you are a brandnew person, with a clean slate overseas if you are a dual national.
