Guessing a bit here but I'd say its just that as he is working away they
need to know that the relationship is still strong. In your shoes I'd
focus on explaining why he is away - and mention the phone problem - and
on making sure that you show you are a couple, Being together that long
you should know each other pretty well and should have joint plans for
the future, hopes of children, new home, whatever- thats the stuff that
shows you are committed, and thats what they are looking for.
Also, make sure they know that this is a short term thing - forced apart
by work, back together as soon as you can be.
