Default Waiting for spouse I-485 greencard

Just want to see some opinions on this... I filed adjustment status for
my wife who is waiting for the greencard, and I am US citizen...
interviewed in Feb, 2005, immigration officer said will get back to
us... no mails or phone calls... until recently I had the local
congressman do an inquiry, came back saying the file is in pending
review from the background check...

I spoke to a supervisor and she said now the background check is done
outside US, so getting it back is pain is the butt.

UNBELIVABLE!!!

I don't think they've "outsourced" the background checks. The
background check by its very nature may contain elements that require
the cooperation of foreign governments (in countries where your spouse
used to live). It's not that the background check is *now* conducted
outside the US.

By the way, you are very patient -- most people start calling their
congressman long before the 21 month mark!!!

Look back a few posts for a related topic started by RichardIII. He and
a few others have also been waiting over a year, or two, or three....

As has been mentioned I don't think they have outsourced the background
check. USCIS pays the FBI to carry out the background checks through the
National Namecheck Program. This is why people usually refer to it as
the FBI namecheck. However several people have told me that the
namecheck not only checks FBI files (domestically and overseas) but also
those in other datbases. I've heard both CIA and Interpol mentioned.

Unfortunately, as you've found out, there seems to be nothing anyone can
do to move it forward short of suing USCIS and FBI and even that seems
to be a bit hit and miss.

Good luck with getting it through.

Well, I have been made infopass appointment and went in the USCIS
office and speak to one of the rep., just saying file pending review,
and did this four times during these two years.

So there is nothing you can do but wait.
