Default Visitor Visa Question - Reply Appreciated

Quick Question -
If someone has been issued a visitor visa for a period of 6 months.
For e.g. From July 21st to Jan 21st. If the visa holder enters Canada
on December 21st, does the validity of the visa permit him/her to stay
only for a month or is it 6 months from the date of entry.

Thanks a ton in advance.

Regards,

Raj

Validity of the visa sticker in the passport has nothing to do with the
length of admission to be granted at the port of entry. Your visa sticker
may be valid for 5 years with multiple entries, but admission will only be
granted for up to 6 months. Note the phrase **up to** - you may be granted
admission from anywhere between 1 day to 6 months, regardless how long visa
sticker in your passport is valid. Fact that you may have long validity of
visa sticker doesn't mean that you will get longest possible admission. And
vice versa - fact that you may be asking for admission on the last day of
your visa sticker validity doesn't mean that officer will not consider
giving you 6 months admission.

So, you can ask for admission at any time before your visa sticker expires,
even on the last day of it's validity. Admission may be granted as per
examining officer's discretion for up to 6 months, regardless expiration
date of visa sticker in your passport, providing of course that sticker is
still valid when you ask for admission.
