um....

Will you be working continuously or just when you run out of coin?
will you be moving around a lot? Your own car or public transport?
Do you generally eat day-old bread or at white-linen restaurants? And do
you have a pint with that?
Will your 'contacts' find you a place to crash with a multi-share or will
you have to rent a flat or bunk on your own?

"How much money" is a little like asking "how much does a dog eat?"

$30 to $40 a day

Such figures are very rubbery given that much
depends where you first stay , how soon before work
and what you want to do.

Living cheap/share near a capital city $150 pw , rent $100, food $50
$1500 for 3rd hand car to get about and to work.

State charges and regulations for cars vary a lot and drag the price and
availability
of cheap cars with them.

Most capitals have decent public transport services at around $8 a day .

http://www.immi.gov.au has all the details - most if not all Australian
embassies / high commissions are online as well and have this information
for your country (by your address, I assume you're Canadian - if so, the
Aus. HC in Canada is in fact online - you need to be 30 or under, among
other things).
