Validity of Police Clearance Certificate for Citizenship Application
From the date of my becoming a Permanent Resident until my return to
Australia, a few years have passed.
During this time I resided permanently in the U.A.E. After returning to
Australia, I will not set foot again in the U.A.E., for at least a few
years, until I obtain my citizenship.
When I apply for Citizenship I need a Police Clearance Certificate from
the countries where I resided for at least 12 months from the date of
becoming a Permanent Resident.
My question is: if I take the Police Clearance Certificate before I
leave the UAE, will it be valid after at least 2 years, for the purpose
of the application for Citizenship?
I mean, I couldn't possibly do anything wrong in the UAE if I am not in
that country, could I?
Logic tells me that I shouldn't have any problem if I took the
certificate when I leave, but does anybody know what is the reality?
Then... if the certificate wouldn't be valid, how could I obtain one
from abroad?
Thank you for any replies.

Police certificates are only valid for a certain time limit. You will
need to get a more recent one for your application. You can look at the
immi website and find out how to apply for your police certificate
there. I think it has links to where to write away for one.

Gabriel
In theory, one may have an outstanding arrest warrant *after* one
has left a country permanently, for an alleged crime committed
while resident.

Definitely get a police certificate before leaving the UAE. It may be
impossible to get one later on.
The 12 month limit may be waived for applicants who are not citizens of
the country of former residence and have not returned there.
It's a grey area however, so make sure you keep good contacts in the UAE
as you would need their help if you needed a replacement later on.

Thank you for your replies!
I hate running around to get papers. I'll take a Police Clearance
Certificate before leaving the UAE and I'll ask them about the
possibility of obtaining one from abroad.
But I haven't done anything illegal, why don't you believe me?!?
