Default Validation Stamp

We arrived in Melbourne on Friday to get our permanent resident visa
stamped. I told the guy at customs that we had PR visas and we wanted
to validate it and he said I needed to get it done in Melbourne.

He did stamp our passports but he didn't stamp the actual visa page or
on the visa? Do I need to get the actual visa part stamped or is it
just the normal stamp (on any page) that I need?

I searched older posts and they seemed to indicate it was just the
normal stamp in the passport. Could someone please confirm - do I need
the visa sticker to be stamped or not?

Thanks
AL

The normal stamp to say you have entered the country is all there is.
It's all electronically linked and DIMA will know you are in the
country.

I have no idea why he told you that you had to go to Melbourne
But hey-ho.

By the way, welcome to Australia

There's no need to stamp the visa label, in fact, it shouldn't be
defaced.

We validated our visas and they got stamped on a different page to where
our visa was.

the only time DIMA stamp the visa itself is when you change your visa
like applying for a resident return visa there stamped a large LABEL
INOPERATIVE on my old visa and put a new one in for 5 years. as i
needed a new one last year as i had a overseas holiday.

Other than that you always get a wet stamp in your passport when you
enter and leave Australia.
