Default USA Social Security and Australian Equivalent - Gurus please help

Hi All,
I got my PR recently and am going to move to Aus in a couple of months.
In an earlier stint
I worked in the USA for a few years and contributed to their Social
Security system.

I know that USA has a tax agreement with Australia. So how do I get
that money I put into the
USA into into the Australian equivalent if a social security system ?

Thx

You can see details of the Australia-USA social security agreement here:

Depends on how many a "few years" is. Normally, one must have earned 40
credits to be eligible for US Social Security retirement benefits. This
often means that one must have contributed to the US Social Security
System for at least 10 years. Your eligibility may also depend on if
you are a US citizen. The US/Australian tax treaty really doesn't have
any bearing on your eligibility for social security if you are not
working for a US-based company in Australia.

A tax agreement has nothing to do with contributions to SS in the US.

I stand to leave several years contributions behind because I am not
of age to apply for it when I leave the US next year.

None, any more.
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/overseas/pension_agr-
eements.htm

Agreement with the United Kingdom

The agreement with the United Kingdom ended on 1 March 2001. If you were
getting benefits under the agreement on 1 March 2001, you will continue
to get those payments.

If you migrated to Australia on or before 1 March 2000, the date on
which Australia served notice of termination of the agreement on the UK,
you will continue to have your UK contributions recognised for grants of
Australian Age Pension.

Thats a real scam. Probably not a thread for this forum, but its a real
swindle by this government of ours, refusing the cash we rightfully paid
in the so-called National Insurance (basically a tax). Will have to go
and find a solution to this now as well......
