Default US citizen wants to know how to sponsor UK husband for emigration to US

Dear all,

I'm hoping someone out there in cyber space might be able to steer me
in the right direction.

I am a US citizen by birth, who lived in the US for approx. 12 years
before emigrating to Canada. I lived in Canada from the age of 12-31
years.

I am now 34 years old and have lived in the UK with my British husband
for the past 3 years. I have indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
My husband and I now wish to move to the US, and are interested to
know the process for doing this, the cost, and the timeframe we are
looking at (best and worst case scenarios).

Is anyone willing to share your experiences with us? If so, I'd be
most grateful to make contact with you. You can email me directly at
.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Kind regards
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

As you're both resident in UK, you qualify for Direct Consular Filing - in
other words all your paperwork can be processed by the US Embassy in London.
You need to file an I-130 first and get it approved (takes about five days)
then go for the Immigrant Visa option. This requires a couple of packs of
forms and a medical and I think an Affadavit of Support. It took us about
eight-ten weeks from filling in the I-130 to getting the visa on the day of
the medical/interview. For the final interview and medical you will need to
allow about five or six hours at the Embassy in London.

Check out the Visa section on the London Embassy website for more
info....costs are there..$130 for the I-130 petition, £125 for the medical
$350 for the immigrant visa. You will probably also need copies of your past
three years tax returns from the IRS.

Good luck:-)

Stuart
