Default US Birth Certificate

Hi,

So, I need to include a "copy of your birth certificate, issed by the
civil registrar, vital statistics office, or other civil authority".
Here comes the problem. Is this a copy of the document furnished by the
civil registrar? Or is it the actual document (original) furnished by
the civil registrar? (since it can also be considered a copy of the
birth certificate). In other words, do I send the original or a copy -
also, if I send the original don't I need another one for the interview?

Man, I'm starting to go nuts reading all these instructions and trying
not to screw up anywhere ....

-Hans

ps: thanks for all the previous replies - they are keeping me sane.

I included a copy of the document, but made sure it was the
official document with the seal, etc.

We're bringing copies to the
interview as well, but we're also bringing the original birth
certificates in case they want to see those (they can ask for originals
of any document submitted).

If you are preparing a petition/application for a visa such
as a K-1 or K-3, send a copy and keep the original for the interview. Do
not send any originals with the petition- keep them for the visa
interview at the consulate

Whether they send you an original or an official copy of the original
is really immaterial. Make a copy of whatever they send you and submit
that. Never, ever send originals of anything, you'll never get them
back.
