Default URGENT - H1-B stamp in Toronto & Tech alert

I recently received a new approval notice after applying for H1
extension. However my H1 visa is expired. I need to visit Canada next
week to attend a wedding. However I am not sure if I should apply to
get a new visa stamp from US consulate in Toronto. I have taken
appoinment in Toronto already. But many people now warned me about
the new Tech Alert List and the delay in giving H1 visa stamp at US
consulates. My job is "computer analyst in the department of
preventive medicine" in a well-known university.

Should I go for the visa or should I just apply for automatic visa
revalidation rule since I plan to come back to US in 3 days ? Someone
please advise me - I have very less time and am confused about what I
should do. My lawyer also is confused and mainly suggests not applying
for the visa, but says he does not know much about the things
happening with this new tech alert rule.

Please help me !!!

The deal is that if you go to toronto and get your visa application
rejected then they will not let you back into the USA . Also if you
are from iraq, iran, Nkorea, lybia, afganistan...etc then you cannot
make use of the automatic visa revalidation as well.
Make sure that you dont submit the white I-94 as well as the I-94
attached to the H1 approval notice to the canadian immigration when
you go in. and then if you are coming back in 30 days you will be
fine. Just to be safe keep proof of your entry into canada with you
(ticket stubs etc ), also carry an employment letter and paystubs.

I would agree, it's pretty dangerous to apply for a new visa there - you
may stuck for a long!
My friend was in the situation close to yours - got H1 extention doing
biochemical research
in a well-known university. She went to Toronto to get a visa stamp - and
waiting there more
than 2 month for now... Who cares about her job here and what will she do
there...

Anyway, good luck whatever you choose to do.
