Default UK on "holiday" in US for 20 yrs, How can he get legal?

My friend came to the US almost 20 yrs ago on holiday and never left.
His vacation visa obviously expired many years ago. What are his
options to become of legal status here? Is marriage a solution? The
only solution? What steps should he take. He doesn't know where to
start. It seems like all info on marriages that we find are when one
person is still overseas. Is there any other way that he can stay here
without getting married? I do not think that he wil be able to be
sponsored as an employee to anywhere, because he doesn't have a college
degree etc. WHat are your thoughts and advice? TIA

If he has been getting away with it for 20 years, what has changed now?

THere is a recent court decision that those who were here before 1982 and
have not yet applied or had been disqualified under amnesty of 1986, they
can apply now. They can apply only in 1 year starting May.

Good Luck

Does this court decision require any other condition except being in
US before 1982? Just curious. I wonder whow many people will qualify
for it and how many people will know about it.

My guess is that those who have been here all these year before 1982
and yet not have greencard must not have had any way to apply for
greencard all thoise time.

What about those in similar position but were here jsuta few years
later, like in 1985 or so? When will they get such amnesty? I would
say those who missed it by few years are unlucky ones.
