Default two driver's licenses

I am an American with permanent residency in Canada and I have landed there and I also have an apartment there. But I still have my home in the US too and for now I am still working in the US. But I want a simple piece of identification for when I am in Ontario (not just the PR card). Can I get a new GI Ontario driver's license while retaining my US license? That is, NOT going through the exchange procedure. Or do I have to surrender my US license? Thank you for any help!
