trolls have caused the filipinamates forum which had been around for
the last five years to be shut down.

Hmm, I was not aware of this site. Thanks for the link.

This part on the index page is interesting…

“Help with Immigration questions with Maria and Saintrose. This is NOT
legal advice, simply help from two ladies who are very experienced in
immigration matters!

That’s pretty funny! So one can render legal advice and turn it into non-
legal advice by “saying “this is not legal advice (this is not my
beautiful house… this is not my beautiful wife… same as it ever was :-).
I did not know that. Perhaps this works with the rendering of medical
diagnoses and/or recommended courses of medical treatment.

Of course, for those on this board, this discussion is “old news (that
I honestly don’t want to see flare up again), however the one’s I really
like are the ones who shout the loudest, “you don’t need an attorney
but then in the same breath acknowledge the legal question that was
asked and then try to provide legal advice while “playing attorney.

Isn’t the net grand?

Surely you are aware of many people who "render medical 'diagnoses'"
and/or recommend courses of "medical" treatment all the time! Just watch
late night infomecials!

Truth is you don't necessarily need a lawyer - you just need to live
with the consequences.

so when does advice become "legal"??

If someone asks a question, and i give an answer -- there's no
implied "legality" of it. It's free speech -- nothing is in warranty
or guaranteed. Advice from a person named "SkaterDude" on some forum
is far from *legal* in any sense. Plus what is "advice" and what is
a "reply"?.

Hi Nav,

I understand your reply was tongue in cheek (at least I think it was)
but to reply, I would tend to think a commercial is like a book or a
website that someone publishes. I think there is a difference between
creating this type of work, compared to analyzing someone’s question(s)
and rendering an opinion (legal or medical). Of course, I don’t think
every reply would be the unauthorized practice of law or medicine, but
the more one does it… well……

I really don't want to dredge this all up again. This was discussed at
length a few times before on the group, so if you search under “UPL you
will find all sorts of postings discussing this very thing. If you read
every one of them, you should be finished by, oh, Jan 2nd 2005 :-).

Wow, it’s getting late. Time to leave the office and walk home.

I suppose it can all be decided in court if you are sued. I am not aware
of any case law but I haven't done any research either. Of course, I do
not mean to imply that you will be sued just that it is possible.

Looks like a singles mail-order-bride website.

Sorry.

This is not the old site which had a database of posts similar to
britishexpats. This is a brand new site that they just started up
again.

I think Leslie66 is right that is looks like a mail order bride
site. The old site had that appearance. Since that is illegal now,
they just "introduce" people. I saw on there one time where a USC had
advertized a girl who was supposed to be a friend of his filipino
wife. The girl looked like she was about 15 years old. The ad looked
like it was offering fresh meat to some old perverts to buy.
