Default Transfering funds from UK to Oz

Hi there,

Does anyone have any comments or suggestions for transfering money from
UK to Oz. This is a one off transfer of all the savings we have to use
for our relocation. We have only 2 weeks before we fly and would
appreciate any help on this topic.

HiFX, moneybrokers accounts should only take a few days to setup but you
need an account in oz to receive the money. Might be able to open
hsbc/cba account from the uk.

Is there a rush to get the lump sum accross ?

Also about to transfer funds from u.k. to Oz and have been looking at
Hifx and Ozforex - do Ozforex charge for the money transfers?
Understand that Hifx do this free of charge for single transactions.

Hi Datamile

There is only a rush that we need to live off this money when we arrive
in oz on 6th December 2006.

No charge if it's more than AUD 10000.

We were thinking of opening commonwelath bank as you get cheaper migrant
fares with qantas when you open an account with them from the UK, but
use HIFX or one of the others to transfer the money.

Hi Mark,

With respect to getting cheaper QANTAS fares, you also need to take into
account the IOM fares which you'll be eligible for. I understand that
IOM isn't always competitive but you should take it into account -
www.iom.int . Having said that, I imagine that if your travel is only a
month away then you've probably already committed to a travel deal.

On the money transfer angle, there are always two considerations -
exchange rate offered and commission taken - and you just need to work
out who's going to give you the most Australian dollars in Australia on
your one off transfer.

Cheers,

George Lombard

fx rates are going to be fun over the next couple of weeks with both GBP
and AUD expecting interest rate rises. Timing and whether both actually
do it we affect the rate. The rate is already down to 2.46 from a high
of 2.56 a month ago.
