Default Train Ticket from Munich to Rome

Another question - I plan to travel from Salzburg to Rome in late
June. I've done some searching online and found that if I take a
train from Salzburg to Munich, there is direct night service from
Munich down to Rome.

Where's the cheapest place online to purchase tickets? Do I even need
a ticket in advance, or can I simply purchase when I am there? I plan
on reserving one of those T2 berths if available. I'll be in Salzburg
for three days so can I purchase Salzburg --> Munich and Munich -->
Rome when I arrive or do I run the risk of the train(s) being full?

I also see that there are 77 euro fares on Germania Express from
Munich to Rome. How convenient is the trip from the Munich train
station to the airport? I will cut down my travel time significantly
by flying, but doing the overnight route on the train is okay too,
since I don't waste any daylight hours travelling.

Thanks in advance,

Joy

The SparNight tickets (which includ railfare and sleeping spot) are
available online here:

Just if you find it more convenient you may catch that train, EN 287,
somewhat later in Rosenheim being more close to Salzburg.

do you mean the other way?

It's quite easy. There are 2 S-bahn lines from the airport
to the centre. Both take about the same time 40-45 minutes
and run on a 20 minute frequency, interleaved with each other
to make a 10 minute frequency. They are improving one of the
lines to a 10 minute frequency but I don't think that's in operation
yet.

Fare is 8 Euro (4 zones)
