Default Tourist Visa (676) For Aged Parent

Hi all,
I've trawled the forum but can't get a definitive answer...so here's the
direct question !

Does the Tourist Visa (676) have a 12 month validity FROM THE TIME OF
ISSUE or FROM THE TIME YOU ENTER AUSTRALIA.

We're still in the UK. Due to move over to Oz next summer and my mum
(only remaining relative other than aunts etc.,) would like to come for
6 months to see if she wants to emigrate with us at a later date.

I seem to remember seeing a post saying that the Subclass 676 was only
valide for 12 months from time of issue not time of entry.

ALSO.....are these a pretty quick visa to get? Or does it require a
full Case Officer involvement (my mum is over 70 and will need a medical
and health insurance). Anyone have experience of timescales ???

ALSO....the consul website mentions Charachter requirements.......but
says not to include them until asked to do so. Is this always required
for the visitor visa or would a silver-haired granny be exempt?

ANY adive off you clever, clever people would be appreciated.

Regards

Hi

The 12 month validity period runs from the date of issue....My wife and
I have recently applied for a 676 6 month visa. We applied on line and
my wife's visa was granted immediately and mine was granted 2 days
later. Not sure though how your mum's age wil affect it. There's plenty
of info on the DIMA website under the Visitor/Tourist visa section.

Thanks for the confirmation that the visa is granted from date of issue
rather than date of entrey.....

Did you actually ASK for a 6 month duration or is it automatically valid
for 12 months and you just intend to visit for 6 months?

I have read the DIMA stuff....it's just confusing because my mum will
need to submit medical info and proof of health insurance.....I suppose
we should just do the on-line stuff and wait to be asked for the rest.
I assume that there were'nt any issues with charachter requirements
(police checks etc.,???) 'cause they're mentioned on DIMA as well.

Thanks for the help and sorry about the additional questions....just
thinking out aloud.

Regards

Hi

We asked for 6 months but we are allowed 12 months from the date of
issue to enter Australia for a period of 6 months, you can ask for a 12
month visa but you may have to give a good reason for wanting it. We had
no issues with police checks/health as we are in our fifties and just
answered the questions on the on line application form.
