Hello,

We have a NOA dated 1/23/06 from TSC -- we sent in the I-751 forms
about 10 days earlier.
We have heard nothing since. I've called my congressional office and
they tell me
approvals are taking this long now.

Anyone know what happens when the 1-year GC extension runs out? I live
close to the "All American" city of Farmers Branch, and I'm getting
concerned about what might happen if my wife was in a traffic accident
or something and had no obvious proof of her right to be in the U.S.

Hmmm. Approvals are not taking that long now--I haven't seen a 12 month
one posted in a while actually.
You might consider making an appointment at your DO via Infopass (see
uscis.gov) and taking your receipts etc in.
#1 you can see if you need to shake your case loose from somewhere
#2 you can ask for and likely get a stamp in the passport to extend her
#proof of status.

Her status still remains PR during this time but she lacks evidence
after the letter runs out.
I think speaking to someone in person like this will uncover if
there's an issue that needs dealing with (oops, transfer you back OUT
of storage), is something you can not control (namechecks etc) or is
perfectly normal. Plus you can get the pp stamp that you'll need
fairly soon.
