Re: Thanks, Mr Miller, S B, Goodnews, why serious grilling?, What is the starting point to work for Canadian bussiness?
1 - it is to find out if you are still meeting or are able to meet 2/5 rule
2 - your PR status and fact that you are meeting 2/5 rule will be verified
during application process for Travel Document, thus re-entering Canada with
such should be smooth
3 - you must be employed on full time basis by Canadian company in Canada
and then sent to work full time abroad assigned on a full-time basis as a
term of the employment or contract to
(a) a position outside Canada;
(b) an affiliated enterprise outside Canada; or
(c) a client of the Canadian business or the public service outside Canada.

If as I understood he's crossing by land from the US, then he doesn't
need the travel document (or am I confused?). He certainly would need
one to come by air.

Stuart - he is trying to prevent "grilling" at the border about his years
long absence by getting TD in advance of coming back. Quite good idea.
