Default Taxes on shopping from US stores

I understand that if I bring my household goods to Canada I do not have to pay
any taxes. The only problem is that my electrical appliances work on 220V and
not the Canadian 110V.
If I buy electrical appliances from US stores (like Amazon for example), do I
have to pay any taxes (as an immigrant)? If I do have to pay, what taxes are
they?
Thanks.

You will
have to pay sales tax (8%, possibly 15%) and import duty if they are
foreign made. Because you didn't own them before you moved, that are
not part of your goods that are tax expempt. You would be better off
buying locally once you move.

Yes you would as they are not settler effects. You would have to check with
CCRA to find out the various tax rates, but you probably would be much
better off to buy them in Canada. Check out some of the on-line retailers
in Canada (Brick, Sears, Future Shop) and compare their prices in $C to $US
on line retailers.

Thanks folks, I get the picture.
I thought about it, because it seems to me (from far away) that there are
significantly less online stores in Canada than in the States. I will appreciate
if you can provide any links to online stores (especially to electronics and
computer stores, and maybe to a price comparison engine for Canadian online
shops).
Thanks.

You are correct that there are much fewer online stores here, but
there are also much few people. I don't know of a price comparison
engine here, but you can try these online stores:
