Taking Away, Putting In Place - Part 2
`
`
Under the absurd title "The Crisis In Lebanon," the
Royal Institute of International Affairs sponsored a
special members' meeting at Chatham House, Lon-
don on Wednesday July 19, 2006. [1]
`
Two Associate Fellows of the RIIA Middle East Pro-
gramme spoke. One of them is Nadim Shehadi, a
Lebanese economist.
`
On Tuesday August 15, 2006 the Israeli newspaper
Haaretz published Shehadi's article, "Israel Should
Pack Up And Go." [2]
`
Here's excerpts:
`
"If Israel can exist only by destroying the neighbor-
hood, then it's time to declare it a failed state.
`
"The Zionist dream has turned into a nightmare and
is not viable."
`
"...Israel must do itself and others a favor and go
away."
`
"The occupation of the West Bank and Gaza shows
a country deprived of all humanity."
`
"Israel has barely been there for 60 years, a milli-
second in history, but enough time to judge the
results.
`
"If the fundamental moral logic is flawed, then it is
time to give up, pack up and go."
`
But go where?
`
For an opportune answer, please read my Saturday
July 8, 2006 "Taking Away, Putting In Place" essay.
