Staying in Australia after yr visa
Hi guys,
My friend has just arrived in oz on a year long working visa, he would
like to ask if anybody knows if after the year he wants to stay here
what does he need to do -
Will he have to go back to uk and apply from there?
Can he apply for another visa whilst he is still here?
If he finds a job and the employer wants to sponser him can he stay
then.
Or is there another way ?
He loves oz and knows that he will not want to return back to uk.
He is a 23 yrs old.
Thank you
Lynn x

So many different answers for this one but not know his circumstances I
couldn't begin to answer this question. Apart from being 23 why would
Australia want to offer him a PR visa?
Not so easy just to say I love it here and I'm not going home (this can
be done until you get deported and 1000's do it)

I could be wrong, but when we were there, we were told that you could
not apply for any visa, whilst one is already running and you wait until
it runs out, you're knackered !!! I think many people take a short trip
to somewhere locally (NZ) then apply for a new visa to get back
(provided he is sure the visa will be granted), but as A_B said, without
circumstances known it's hard to know if he would qualify. If he's only
just arrived, how does he know he loves it there ?

That is not correct information.
That said, there are certain restrictions on what one can apply for.

The reason he knows he wants to stay is that he has been to oz on
holiday's before, this is the first time he has stayed for a longer
period of time, he has a skill in uk, he just wants to know whether he
can stay here.. he is prepared to go back to uk and apply from there
but if he is here why not ask ??
thanks everyone x

It really depends on circumstances. An online forum won't provide the
answer, sorry - he needs a paid consultation with an experienced agent.

You'll probably have to marry him.

Re: Staying in Australia after yr visa
Being married to an Australian doesn't automatically mean
that you will be allowed to apply for a substantive visa whilst
in Australia...
