Default Spousal visa - when should we apply?

Hello, I'm new here, so sorry if my questions has been talked about
before. I've been reading this site with continued excitement since we
decided to move to Australia (a few months ago). There's been lots of
talk about how long it takes to get a visa, but these seem to be the
Skilled Migrant ones from what I can tell (not really up on all the
lingo just yet, so apologies if I'm wrong).
My fiance is an Aussie and we're getting married in England next June
and want to move out to Brissie really soon after (we're only staying in
England that long cos we're getting married here). So we're not sure
when to actually apply for my spousal visa? We're collecting all the
info to prove we've been living toegther etc etc, but some people seem
to have taken loads of months to get a visa so should we be applying for
it in Sept/Oct of this year? (with a view to moving over next July) Or
is it quicker with a sposal visa?
Also, if we go through the application process before we're married is
it going to complicate things that I will then have a new name (and have
to get a new passport I guess)?
Sorry for all the questions - we're so excited and just want to start
planning!

Hi scubaemma - I am also married to an Aussie but in a slightlydifferent
position as been married for 10 years. We too are moving out to Brisbane
some time between September - Jan and I plan to apply in around June
time. As I understand it from questions that I have asked over time, a
spouse visa is really quickly processed, I know people who have had it
back in a couple of weeks so I think it is fairly straightforward.

I dont know if this is the case if you are not yet married/have not been
married for long but I am sure someone will be along very soon to help!

Cheers
Rachel

Thanks RachelH that's really helpeful. I think it should be okay that
we're not married yet as we can prove we've been living toegther and our
relationship is a genuine one for a number of years. Fingers crossed
you're right that a spousal visa is quite straightforward!

Cheers,

Spouse visas - certainly from the UK - are much quicker than skills. As
long as there are no hitches like medical problems, children from
previous rel'ships etc, they may be granted in a week.

Hi ScubaEmma,

I am in the process of applying for spousal visa, and barring any
problems, should be sending application in a few weeks.

I'll let you know how it goes, and how long it takes.

Although we may have a problem with ours, as hubby has a son from
previous marriage, but we onyl have strict contact on alternate
weekends, and medical testing places only open during the week.

Tracey

Rachel,

I have a permanent residents visa, which has been validated, but also
have support from family out there.

Enquired about applying for visa on just that, and should be fine as we
have support and stat dec from my mum offering this support.

We are heading to Adelaide, where I have family.

Applying soon to move in June, if all goes ok.

Tracey (used to live in Menston, nr Otley, so even closer lol)

If you are only a permanent resident and not an Australian citizen, you
may be required to show that you are "usually resident" in Australia.
