Default sponsorship frustrations via CPC Mississauga (Andrew Miller, please help)

I am interested in learning how long it has taken people to get
sponsorhip approval applying from abroad.

I submitted the package (sponsorship application, PR application) to
CPC Mississauga in August 2003. They began to process the sponsorhsip
in early Sept. 2003. After five months, I have yet to hear back about
sponsorship approval. We applied while we were both living in the US
and I had a plan to move back to Canada. Since then, I have moved back
to Canada and my wife has been visiting me on a temporary visa.

Andrew Miller recently mentioned that 42 days is the average. Are any
other people experiencing long wait times for sponsorship approval?

I am so frustrated.

Was I correct to send it to CPC Mississauga? Does Mississauga handle
the sponsorship part of the application and then forward the PR
application to a consulate abroad? Or should the consulate abroad
handle the sponsorship part too? Someone suggested to me that it would
go faster if Buffalo was dealing with the sponsorhip, but I was under
the impression that they only handle the PR part of the application.

Anyhow, any words of encouragement or suggestions as to what to do
would help.

Hi Peter

I know cases when CIC lost the applications.
Call the info line and ask about your papers.
Normally you should receive a letter from them in max 2 months.
Hopefully you sent the papers via registered mail so you have a proof that
the
papers reached the destination.
Maybe you're lucky and the address they have on file is wrong (happened
before)
and only the confirmation letter was lost not the whole package.

Call CIC and find out what is going on. Most likely (hopefully!) file has
already been forwarded to proper visa post for PR application processing and
just the letter notifying you about it got lost. But you never know, so it
is the best to call them.

My applicatiojn is not lost. It is being processed and I have a case number.
For some reason step 1, approval to sponsor, is taking forever.

What's the basis for your two months claim?

Hi Peter,

If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you look at James
Metcalfe's responses to your other post on this matter.

You were correct to send the whole package to Mississauga. The CPC in
Mississauga processes the application to sponsor, and then once it is
approved, they send you a letter informing you of their decision and
then they forward the application for Permanent Residence to the Visa
Post abroad.

For your information, my husband and I submitted our spousal
sponsorship from abroad package to Mississauga on December 22nd, 2003
and I received my sponsorship approval letter from Mississauga in
mid-January (letter dated January 9th). I think my timeline on this
is pretty standard (although some people seem to wait a little bit
longer). Anyway, 6 months is your case seems a clear indication to me
that something went wrong somewhere. Hopefully, the experts on this
newsgroup can assist you in finding out what the problem is.

Good Luck and All the Best.
