Default Skills Matching DB

Hi

I am currently investigating which visas I can apply for in an attempt
to gain entry to OZ to live and work. As a result I have a couple of
questions to ask which hopefully someone can shed some light on.

1. I have gone through the points test to see if I could obtain a
skilled independent (136) visa, and unfortunately I only score 110
points with a current pass mark of 120. When was the point pass mark
last reviewed / revised, is it changed regularly?

2. I am now looking at listing my details on the Skills Matching
Database. I was wondering if anyone has had any success in obtaining
a visa using this database, or if anyone knows what the success rate
is for potential migrants?

3. I am going to list myself as an Intelligence Officer on the skills
matching database, as I have the work experience and qualifications
to support this. I would also have liked to list my self as a Soil
Scientist, but only have the qualifications to support this and no
work experience, does anyone know if there is a way around this? e.g.
if I get an Australian employer to sponsor me?

Any help / advice gratefully appreciated
Thanks

Contact a good agent (I recommend George Lombard). You will be able to
get sound advice on your best visa options, there may well be a better
option than the Skill Matching Database.
Good Luck

I am not knowledgeable on this, but I seem to remember previous posts
with information or links on the number of people whose details are held
on the SM DB, and the number who found employers via the DB. The numbers
being quite a lot, and not very many, respectively!

That's not much help I know, but if you use the Search facility above
you should find some more useful info and advice.

Cheers
Karl

My thoughts exactly Karl which is why I suggested checking out other
options, great minds think alike and fools seldom differ :-)

Thanks for the rough idea of the SM DB figures. I will use the search to
try and find some figures.

Also plan to go through George's website tonight.

Thank you to both of you for the advice.

Need a bit of advice myself now!

On Form 47SK, there is an optional section re the Skills Matching
Database. Applying via a 136 I'm inclined not to fill it in. However,
despite it being "optional", would it be viewed negatively by DIMIA if
it were not filled in?

Thanks
Karl

Hi Karl,

Most 136s didn't fill it anyway...

All the best with your application!
