Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 136)
Can anyone help with a few questions?
Do I have to work full time with this visa?
Can my husband work?
How can I find out if a medical condition will effect my application
Thanks Rhea

Hi, here's some answers for you
1 - You can do whatever you like regarding work when you get here with
that visa.
2 - Yes your hubby can work full time, also doing whatever he wants
(providing it's legal in both cases )
3 - Speak to an agent, unless you want to tell the whole world what it
is (which I wouldn't advise ) General rule is that so long as it's
not going to cost the Australian Government over a certain amount of
money per year you should be OK. It's always best to get advice from an
agent though as they can help you to present it all to DIMA.

Hi Wendy
Thanks! Its mind blowing trying to decide what visa is best. I'm looking
at the DIMA website. Is their a fool-proof guide/list to what to do. I
have no idea where to start!
Thanks Rhea

Hi Rhea,
As Wendy said, it really depends on the severity of the medical
condition, and whether it is likely to result in a significant cost to
the Australian community or prejudice access to health care/community
services. I am a Registered Migration Agent with a background also in
health (masters level education). I would be happy to offer you a free
initial assessment of your eligibility for the 136 visa. Contact me at
carres[at]optusnet[dot]com[dot]au.
Kind regards,
Fiona Carre

As far as I know the 136 has no restrictions, that's why it's more
difficult to get. If you qualify for it then that's then one I would
get (but make sure you qualify before applying)
As Wendy said, once you have that visa, both of you can work anywhere
for anyone, in any type of job (or not work at all). You would also be
a permanent resident with the same access to healthcare and education as
Australian citizens.
I would suggest you either go through the self guided questions on the
DIMA website and ask questions here if needed. Or you could consult an
agent. Your choice.
We did our visa ourself (136) but it was pretty straight forward in our
case. We're both young, 2 little kids, MODL, low risk country and the
skill assessment was as simple as looking up a degree. There are lots
of people on here that use agents, and lots that don't.
You can always do a search here for information on the 136 or other
visas. There's a lot of information out there, you just have to
look for it.
Good luck.

Thanks Comet.
I am still confused about where to start, I don't really want to use
an agent if I can help it. Is there a list anywhere which tells you
step by step, because the more I look at the DIMA website the more
confused I get!
thanks

Here's some links for you:
A summary of all the visa classes (make sure to double check
requirements with DIMA website):
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t97377
DIMA: which visa is for me?
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-
migration/index_filter.htm
Look at the bottom of the page and go through the checklist.
DIMB: 136 visa information:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-
migration/136/index.htm
Requirements for a 136:
1. You must be under 45 at the time you apply (you will need full birth
certificates to prove this)
2. Your job must be on the SOL list:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf
3. You must get at least 120 on the points test, follow link on this
page: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-
migration/136/eligibility-applicant.htm
4. Have a certain amount of recent work experience (depends on
occupation)
5. You must provide a complete application (don't forget to sign or
something) and pay the fee of course
4. After you've applied you must pass a medical and a police check
Before you can apply you need to get your (or your husbands) skills
assessed. Check the SOL link above and you can find out who assesses
your occupation. There is one main applicant, which can be you or your
husband. The spouse is included in the application, but you may or may
not need to use their skills.
In our case my husband was the main applicant, and me and the kids
were included, but I did not include any points for myself as we had
enough already.
Here is a two more great links for information.
Here's the checklist for the 136 visa:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/checklists/136.pdf
It gives you some idea of the supporting documention, keep in mind not
all things are applicable.
Booklet 6: General information about the 136 visa
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/1119.pdf
And finally the application form
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/47sk.pdf
I hope that's enough to get you started. If you have any questions just
ask here or you can PM me if you like. I am by no means an expert but I
have done a lot of research for our own application.

I would actually start by reading through booklet 6, which goes through
eligibiliity and all the information you need.

Thanks that list is really helpful. Need to get some ink for my printer
so I can print booklet 6. I don't know what to de re medical problem. I
guess I will have to see an agent about that. I think I have enough
points myself without my husbands points.
thanks again

Most agent will do you a free initial assessment, Fiona has offered her
services, there are a few other agents on here that will also do the
same or you can use who I did www.visabureau.co.uk
(http://www.visabureau.co.uk)
There will be no obligation to use them and if they don't think you will
get in for any reason they will tell you.
All of the above are very good
