Default Selection points for Expression of Interest (Skilled Migrant Category)

From the New Zealand Immigration Service website:
A selection of Expressions of Interest under the Skilled Migrant
Category took place on Wednesday 3 March 2004.
The selection point was 185, meaning 255 Expressions of Interest with
185 points or more will now undergo preliminary verification to determine
whether an Invitation to Apply for residence can be issued.

Sigh...I've filled in the EOI but have not submitted it as my points are no
where near 185. Does that mean that I have no hope in moving to NZ? I love
New Zealand so very much!

About 1/3 of those picked being found to have overstated their points.
So discard 1/3 and you'll see that NZIS are not receiving enough EOIs to
replenish the whole quantity picked, so pool numbers will fall slowly
and hence points will too.

There's a whole date on the issue at
www.emigratenz.org[/url] and ]www.*****.co.uk, but
basically points will probably be down to around 150 by June or so.

At
present they're only picking ones who are in NZ with job offer, easier
to verify while they test their systems.

Stay cool and you'll get
through

Cheers from NZ

Thanks for your encouragement. Do you mean that I have little chance of
getting through as I do not have a job offer? I hunted for jobs when I was
on vacation in NZ last year, but was turned away because I did not have a
work permit; I wasn't even granted any interviews. But as you probably know,
it's a deadlock situation as I cannot apply for a work permit without a
letter of employment.

I have been applying for NZ jobs online with the same result - no work
permit so no one seems to be keen on hiring me. There are so many IT jobs in
the NZ job market which are suitable for me, but it's such a pity that I am
not eligible for them simply because I lack a work permit.

Hi there

The highest points without job offer are getting up to 150 but
most are around 115 to 125

I think the points level will be down there
in 4-6 months, and perhaps NZIS beef up education of employers so people
in your position can still move ahead.

hang in there

Hi Jamie,

Thank you so much for your advice and words of encouragement. I really hope
that I'd be given the chance to stay in New Zealand. :)

By the way, are you a British expat residing in New Zealand? Are you a NZ
PR? How long did it take for you to get your PR? Did you have a job offer
before you applied for PR?

Sorry for all these questions, I hope to get a better idea of this whole PR
issue.

Cheers,
Yvonne

So that then means I have wasted my money in submitting an EOI now as
they will only look at points 120-130 in 4 to 5months time?

As the
your EOI is only valid for three months, and if not picked it gets
withdrawn out of the pool therefore I would have to submit another one?

How about if I log on and make make some small change to it just as
it is about to expire and resubmit,is it then considered submitted on
that new date?

Probably wasted. I think....depends how fast they process, how many
people get binned completely for wrong points or just repositioned.

You
are only "live" for 3 months and can update during that time, but
updates do not keep you alive.

I'm a kiwi born and bred, however
through my own business I am on the board of NZAMI immigration agents
association, so have some things to do with NZIS and Minister/staff on
regular basis.

Hmm thats not too fair don't you think?

I realise the NZIS is probably
trying to find a way around potential backlogs with the system.

I have
120 points and they are genuine-when do you think would be the next best
time to resubmit ANOTHER one?

is NZ really short of expeirenced young
(late 20's)
motor mechanics and Pharmacists?,and currently working in
those capacities?
