Default RPL - Required Info & Processing...rejected?

Hello One & All,

I am in the process of going through completing my RPL. I have over 8
years IT experience, most in systems, project and team management. I ha-
ve a couple of MCP certificates but no IT degree.

I have a few questions regarding RPL and the application process.

For section 2/3 on the RPL, I could provide experience and details of
most COBK titles, all expect 3. In total this came to over 8 pages of
almost 2500 words. Does this seem enough?

What are they looking for in Section 4? I have tied to reiterate that
fact that in each role I have learnt new skills and knowledge that has
enabled me to be promoted and/or further my career development…Does this
seem correct?

For these 2 essays on previous project work, is there a recommended str-
ucture that one should follow? What I am looking for is what kind of in-
formation they are looking for. I have seen the guidance notes on the
RPL form, however as with most of these, these are all theoretical and
they are actually looking for more information. Do you need to have det-
ails on the project scope, business requirements, budgets etc with Intr-
o, body and conclusions sections?

I have been fortunate with my references and have been able to get
all previous employers to detail my roles and the technologies used
together with projects I worked on. Will this have much impact on the
application?

I am also a memeber of the BCS - Pro. Grade. I heard this may help with
RPL, does it?

What is the current processing time from the ACS?

Does anyone have a realistic idea on the complete timescales I am looki-
ng at from ACS/RPL submission to get the visa granted? I intend to subm-
it the RPL in the next 3-4 weeks and would like to be in Oz by New Year
2006, realistic?

I am considering using an agent as I am finding alot of this like guess
work, is this recommended? Does anyone know how many applications are
rejected each year by the ACS for RPL, percentage of applications? If
one is rejected, how soon can you re-apply?

Any help or past experience advice would be grateful.

Cheers,

Tops G

I wrote a lot more than that in total but I've read comments from people
who have succeeded with a similar number of words to you. You don't have
to prove you know everything about everything so if you've written about
10-12 topics on the CBOK then that should be enough. It's definately qu-
ality over quantity so if you're happy you've proved what you know and
explained how you learned it along the way then go for it.
To be honest I rambled on here about how 'the learning never stops' and
went on to say which mags / e-newsletters, etc I read to keep up, my ta-
ke on training, how important it is to keep up to speed with the DPA,
RIP, etc and some other stuff about professionalism.
I simplified mine quite a bit. I wrote about the background of the proj-
ect, what my role was specifically and then some waffle about the actual
technical details of the project.
It can only be good :) MBCS gives you a good standing, as it were but
you need to be a chartered member to be able to apply for skills assess-
ment without RPL.
Mine took 2 months almost to the day earlier this year.
I think that's realistic
If you're not sure about any aspect of your application, it may well be
wise to seek professional adviceIt depends on why it was rejected. In my
case it was because they didn't consider my previous job relevant so I
have to wait until I have enough 'relevant' experience (this November).

These applications are either dead simple or more complex than spaghet-
ti junction.

There are a few UK based experts in this field - the number 1 is in my
humble opinion one Tony Coates, who is a mara registered agent who wor-
ks for me.

He gives a free 5 minute assessment over the phone - if you are interes-
ted I will pm you his direct dial.

Hi Tops

I did an RPL earlier this year, from what you have wrote it looks like
you have done your research. But.... be warned, incorrect format, not
enough detail on references etc can cause a fail. I would strongly reco-
mmend an agent.

I failed on my first go, used an agent on the second go and got a pos-
itive assessment back, which should take around 2/3 months to process
by the ACS.

My agent is George Lombard and i can not recommend him highly enough!

He his based in Sydney, where the ACS are also based :)

I took the RPL route one year ago. I probably would not have had a suc-
essful assessment without the help of George Lombard. (BTW, George's
fee is very reasonable)
