Resolution of ETA visa query
I'd like to pass on the result of my 'request for clarification'
email to DIMA.
Readers might recall my post last December. I purchased a Motorhome last
year and have made two visits, staying a total of 4.5 months in Aus
since last March. I was taken to one side by immigration on my last
arrival and told I was 'bending the rules' by doing this and may be
refused entry next time. (The ETA lasts 12 mnths, states multiple entry,
3mnths max per visit).
Here is the reply from DIMA, firstly I'd like to thank all the people
who answered my post. I am grateful to you all.
Thank you for your email concerning a query with your Electronic Tourist
Authority (ETA). As advised during our telephone conversation today,
you
are correct in assuming that if you hold a valid ETA, and current
passport,
if you can show evidence of sufficient funds and you do not have a
criminal
history you can enter and remain in Australia for a period of three
months,
from date of entry. The ETA is valid for a year from grant and you can
reenter and remain for a further three month period, following each
entry
without needing to change or re applying for a tourist visa.
The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs appreciates the
time involved in you witting to the Global Feedback Unit, and I hope
this
information is helpful. I also wish you all the best in you touring
around
Australia
