Default Rescheduling biometrics

Hi

After filing my latest i-765 renewal I had my renewal notice for
biometrics come through. Unfortunately I was not going to be able to
make the appointment and so I returned the notice marked to ask for re-
scheduling as instructed. That was three weeks ago and I haven't heard
anything yet.

Last week my plans changed and I realised that I would be able to make
the appointment so I called the helpline to ask whether I could still go
to the original appt. The agent told me that there was now a new policy
and that I can go to any wednesday after my original appt and they will
fit me in. Does that sound right? She also told me I shouldn't have
returned the notice. However it clearly said on the notice that if you
don't turn up they won't process my I765. I don't want to risk my i765
not being processed .... has anyone else heard about this new
resceduling policy?

Thanks

Quick update. Went for an InfoPass appt this morning at the Houston
district office. The agent there told me that she couldn't confirm what
would happen if I don't make the original appt even if I have asked for
rescheduling. She also said I could try and get it done any day but
again couldn't guarantee what the policy of the Houston fingerprinting
office is.

How can it be that two federal offices of the USCIS separated by less
than 20 miles cannot know what each other'd policy is? And why is there
any chance that they have differing policies? It drives me crazy!!

Oh, she also said she cannot check on the status of an I765 using my out-of-
state California ID. Apparently I must have a Texas ID to check it!!!!

(1) A lot that USCIS does, does not make sense.

(2) Biometrics appointments - unlike other USCIS appointments/interviews
- are very flexible. You should not have returned the notice - you
could have just walked in and chances are that they would have
processed you there and then.

(3) I trust you kept a photocopy of your NOA? Take it to the biometrics
place and see what happens.

(4) If this doesn't work, AFAIK the only thing you can do is call the
dreaded misinformation and get them to schedule a new appointment.

I have a photocopy, just worried that I will get there and they will
tell me they cancelled the whole application because I didn't show up
on the initial date. However I don't have a great deal of choice right
now so I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed and go next week
when I get back.

They will not cancel your application because of this. It is highly
unlikely that USCIS will even be aware that you missed the initial
appointment (a) because biometrics are done by a different outfit, and
(b) because they are too disorganised... However, your application
will be on hold until you have your biometrics donhe, so better go
their asap.

Thanks for the reassurance. I should have gone last week I guess,
unfortunately the office is closed today and I will be on a plane to the
Bahamas at 6:30 tomorrow morning, selfishly using my AP to travel for no
reason other than my own pleasure .

A little worried as the other one expires soon and work have let me know
that I will need to be out on unpaid leave until it arrives. But theres
nothing I can do now except keep my fingers crossed.

Just a confirmation of what you all told me. I went on the first
available day after my appointment and had my prints taken without a
hitch (third time now for me). I was also told by an immigration
attorney yesterday that I should have gone as soon as I got the appt
letter and they would most likely have processed it.
