Default renewing H1B visa question

hi,
i need to renew my H1B visa and i'm wondering what would be the benefit of
renewing via long process or short process. Is there any benefit of
processing via short process.
would be great to hear.

thanks

That becomes an extension of stay petition and the current processing times
are really much longer than regular h1b (7 months in texas service center)
so you make your chaoce $1000 or 7 months...

thanks Alex.
i'm in california.
if i don't travel outside would be fine for longer process i believe,
correct?
but if i need to travel outside the country then would be in trouble, right?
that's the only difference i think there's advantage of renewing long
process and short process, correct.

thanks

correct.. and don't forget that you can always change from regular to
premium in the middle.. so in the 3rd month if you need some fresh vancouver
air, you may expedite your existing regular application via changing your
application type (of course you need to pay)...I don't see any risks in
regular application since you are not subject to quota as well.

Yes, I think that travelling is pretty much the only real benefit of using
premium processing.

One other thing to consider is that now, with the quota having run out,
processing times for extensions should accelerate rapidly. My guess is
that USCIS didn't process any extensions at all until the quota was
exhausted, and will now work through the extensions within weeks, or a few
months at most.
