Removal Question
Hi,
I need help on a really complex immigration issue.
I came to the US in 1996 as an F1 student to study Engineering and
completed a masters degree. After graduation in 1998, I started to
work for a US company as an H1B.
In 2000, after the financial difficulties of the company I resigned
while not knowing about the law that gave H1Bs only 10 days to leave
the US soil after their employement is terminated. I made a big
mistake then, by staying for family reasons: two brothers in US
colleges that I helped, and for political reasons in my country.
I continued to live in the US for two years in an illegal status,
while working. These was a very painful experience because I felt
always like breaking the law, which in fact I was. I would not
recommend anybody to relive such an experience.
In 2002 I filed for political asylum. After an interview, I was denied
asylum by the INS due the one year bar in the filing and my case was
referred to an immigration court.
I decided then to leave and wrote the court that I will depart the
country voluntarily and demanded to drop my case entirely.
But, A few months later, I was shocked to recieve a letter in the mail
saying that I was found deportable in absentia. This after leaving the
country for a few months and forgetting about my immigration problems.
My question is what are the consequences of this removal order. will I
ever have a chance to visit the US again...I am not planning on coming
back any time soon, but maybe someday since I have family and friends.
I also want to start contact with some US companies.
Thanks for your suggestions,
