Chapel St Backpackers is directly across from Windsor train station on
the Sandringham metro line - around 10 mins from the city. It has one
of the only 24 hour bottle shops in all of Melbourne directly across
the road.
Sorry, but I actually live in Melbourne and therefore have no idea
about the quality of the place, no idea about internet access,
kitchen etc etc.
What I can tell you is that there are several local bars on or off
Chapel St. You will have no problems getting a beer locally. I
recommend Greville St at the moment - Boutique, Cherry, the Greville
etc. Loads of cool bars there.
If you have any questions at all about Melbourne, don't hesitate to
fire away..

Re: Recommedation - Hostels in Melborne
I satyed in one in St. Kilda, although I can't remember the name. We
stayed in so many they all merged into one name! It was above a pub
called the Elephant and Wheelbarrow or something and right across from a
tram, a park and a 5 minute walk to the beach. Sorry I can't remember
the name. There are really good hostel services at the airport where you
can press a number and get straight through to any hostel, ask them
questions and if you want to stay they arrange for you to be picked up.
