Default recieved gc - disability?

i was here in the usa on a work visa, met the love of my life, got married
and have just recieved the conditional gc for myself and my son
things are going great and i consider myself blessed

my question
my wife recieves a disability cheque
she says that she can claim for my son (mine by blood - ours in real life)
i am concerned that this may not be allowed
as from my understanding my son and i may not be supported by the usa system

comments please
i dont want to do anything that is not ok
