This is the one thing that I'm trying to get figured out. My fiance

worked in a foreign country for exactly 6 months on a visa. I
hear
reports that a police certificate is needed for over 6 months
only, and
then others say if its 6 months or more. Either way,
I contacted the
embassy in Manila for the country where she
worked and they've said
that they need the request form from
the interview packet from the
embassy in order to issue a
police certificate, but when that arrives,
it will take them 2-3
months to issue the certificate which would force
us to extend
our interview until a later date. I would think that their
would
be some other way to go about this. Has anyone had to get a
police
certificate from a foeign country for your fiance's interview?

I lived in Austrailia for a year and am applying for a Fiance visa for
the US. I have applied direct to the Australian federal police for my
police check they did not need any form from the interview packet. I
only sent off for it recently so have not received it back yet.

Hi:

The availability and procedures for required police certificates
can be found in the State Department website of
http://travel.state.gov using the link "visa reciprocity
tables" in the lower right hand corner [I have to scroll down].

For
example, Korea fits within the procdure you note and the site lays out
exactly what and how to do it.

Off the top of my head, I don't know if
one is needed if one is present exactly six months in a country.

I was under the impression that a police certificate was needed for
every country lived in for longer than a year after the age of 16. I'd
re-read the instructions, as I'm sure it says this somewhere. If you
can't find anything in the I-129f form (probably won't), look up some
of the docs that are in Packet 3. Do a search on here for that info.

Good luck!

Hi Jay,
Just to post my own experience, my Iranian national fiance has
lived in Turkey for several years and thus needs a police certificate
from them. He requested it in December 2003, and has yet to get it in
his hands. They told him it would take 25 days to receive. He was out
of the country when that date arrived, so as soon as he returned to
Turkey he went in person to pick it up. Since then (about a month ago),
he's been told to come back every 2 days, and each time they give him a
different reason for not giving it to him. First they said they
couldn't find it. Then they said they have it, but can't give it to
him. He showed them the email from the embassy that says he needs to
hand carry it to his interview. They said they are supposed to mail it
directly to the embassy. Of course, each of these conversations had a 2
or 3 day gap between them because the right person wasn't there that
day. So, he's supposed to go back in today and talk to a
supervisor (again). I have sent an email to Ankara asking their advice.
I don't know why they are making it so difficult on him....I know they
hand Turkish nationals' police reports right over to them the same day.

Good luck with your case, I hope it all works out. Best Wishes,
Rene

Not really relevant, but I worked in Iran for 18 months (back in
1974/75) but it is one of the countries that I didn't need to get police
report from.
Ask your fiancee if he knows Ramsar (near Chalus on the
Caspian Sea) that's where I worked.

Hmm. I tried to follow that link, and found nothing relating to police
certificates...

Am I missing something?

Hi Roger,

How neat that you worked in Iran! You
are right, he didn't need a police report from Iran. But he's lived in
Turkey many years, and needs one from Turkey...this is the one he's
getting the runaround on. I'll ask him about Ramsar, I'm sure he knows
where it is. Thanks for your note :)

Rene

Thanks everybody. I did check out that site, and I actually

talked with the Consular General for the country where
she was working
on a 6 month visa. He said that they
need the passport with the stamps
from her trip, and
the form from the U.S. embassy packet that says she

needs to have this police certificate for her interview.

Also, he told
me that it will take from 2-3 months to
actually receive the police
certificate. I've been trying
to get ahold of the U.S. Embassy in Manila
to find out
if she'll even need it for a 6 month work visa there. It

would be nice if its not needed, so that we could get
right to the
interview, and not have to wait 2-3 months,
and then more time after for
re-scheduled interview.
