ok i think i got a good question here and i can't find the answer in a
search... just seems to be skated around...

Since I am a female and my
last name commonly changes when i marry what do i do about my
passport??? If i get married in the uk will i need to have my passport
changed before i return to the us or is my old one ok AND/OR when I file
for my settlement visa to go back to the UK will i need to have an
updated passport before i am allowed to go????

My wife is a USC. Once we were married, she
had an annotation put on to page 23 to reflect the name change by the US
embassy in London. She still has to point it out to most airline staff
and officials but the passport is still good until expiry.

i take it she had to apply for a settlement
visa... was the annotation ok for that as well???

oh and do you think
the edinburgh consulate can do the annotation or will we have to travel
all the way to london??? as we are in scotland

The settlement visa was issued at the British Embassy in New
York before we left the US. The US embassy in London did the changes
after we arrived. I would think that the US embassy in Edinburgh would
make the changes for you. As I remember, all they asked for was the
marriage certificate.
