Default RE: Metal mechanist and confusion

hi;

Just a quickie guys. I d been working in a manufacturing facility as a
metal mecahnist, basically a motorcycle manufacturing plant. Had been
into shaping, cuting, bending, electroplating, welding, etc of metals.
Had used various drawing software viz CAD etc and machine tools to mass
produce motorcyle articles by turning, shaping, slotting etc of metal
stock. Its the 6th year of my employment.

I have a diploma cirtificate, its a 3 years diploma in associate
engineering in Mechanical engineering to be precise. How do I go about
things? I d like to know if i have sufficinet qualification for my
trade per TRA requirements. And since the work experience is
multidimensional that is; id been electroplating as well as performing
main duties of a metal mechanist. Should I apply as a metal mechanist
(first class. what is a first class metal mechanic by the way) or an
electroplater.Would TRA treat me as an associate engineer becasue of my
qualification title, obviously that has less points, so i cant buy into
that?

Please suggest a way out.

Kind Regards
jaldin

Aldin this is a tough one. I suggest you seek the advise of a good agent
who specialising in skills assessments like GO Matilda.

Check out their website for more information.

I am going as a metal machinist first class & to qualify you have to
have completed a recognised apprenticeship in metal machining,
(lathes, millers, grinders etc.) as well as having a number of years
experience working as such,
On the DIMIA web site it gives alternatives to an apprenticeship by way
of relevant work experience (i think it was about 5 years post
qualification)
You will need to prove that this is what you do by way of detailed
history of your training & experience validated by present/former
employers, i typed a document of about 8 pages listing all training,
equipment & tools used during my apprenticeship & the same to cover post
qualification experience & sent it to where i worked & got them to put
it on letter headed paper & sign it as a true record of what i did.
Seems that you cannot give too much info. or leave any doubt in the
assessors mind when applying.
TRA took about 4 weeks start to finish & never had an issue with
anything.

Hope this helps Johnboy

Hi;

Thanks alot gents, it was very gracious of you both (Brisben and John)
to alliviate my confusion.

John may i pls request you for one more favour. Since you are through
with the TRA assessment and would be relocating soon; I would immagine
your expetise in preparing your documents can help me no ends. I wish
to share with you my letter that i had written, it highlights my formal
diploma contents, my work environment, machines and software i d used
at the work place, the duration of my work, my duties and roles etc. I
d be extreemly grateful to you if you might want to have a look at my
docs and suggest any format improvements and perhaps presentation too.
I cant obviously alter machines used and there details, roles, softwares
used and environment details, all i can improve upon is the format and
perhaps include details that they keenly look for. Your assistance in
this regard would be greatly appriciated.

Waiting for your reply.

Kind Regards
jaldin
