I have been in the states/Dallas since 1994 LEGALLY (student F1/OPT). I
did travel outside the US several times since 1994. I am in the process
of applying for AOS/I-485 because I got married to a US citizen on
11/2003. I intend to get a green card on the basis of this marriage. I
was 17 years old when I first entered the states in 1994 and been in the
states since then. Do I need a Police Certificate for my I-485
application? Where can I get more information about getting one if I
need it? THANKS

wesam,

When you read the I-485 instructions, did you see any mention of a
police certificate?

Yes

On the first page of the instructions to file for I-485, it said
something about Police Clearance; this is the same as Police
Certificate, right?

Thanks

Doesn't it state that if any time has been spent, do NOT attempt to
obtain a police certificate because the USCIS will obtain it for you.

I would provide that document with the package. Having been active
reader of the newsgroup for some time the conclusion is quite simple :
Better to provide more docs than fewer even if some of them are not
required. The break even point is when your package starts looking
like a fat ugly folder, which is bound to get on the bottom of all the
files. BCIS guys like high productivity numbers. You feel the case ?
