Hi, I'm just getting paranoid about all the security checks and stuff,
and I wondered if anyone knew what their criteria are? I don't have a
criminal record or anything really bad, but I'm kind of worried that you
have to be the perfect citizen to get a visa and I have a couple of
questions...

Will it matter for example if you've been on anti-war
demonstrations or were a student activist?

Will it matter if my fiance
and I look kind of unconventional in some of the casual pictures of us
with my family etc? I know to dress really smartly for the interview.

Thanks!

Laura.

Laura,

Maybe - read the questions on page 3 of form I-485 to get an
idea of the kinds of things that the government frowns on.

If they frown on anti-war activisim, do
you really want (your spouse) to immigrate here?

Doubtful any of
that comes into play. If your pictures are unconventional, the
personal biases of the interviewer could come into play. But that
happens in life too.
