Default Questions regarding immigrant visa stamping

Guys,

I have some questions here for you:

1. My passport will expire in 2 months and it's a hassle to renew it.
Will the Canadian Consulate stamp an immigrant visa on an expired
passport? If not, how long should it be valid for, etc...?

2. I finally got a letter in the mail from the Canadian Consulate after
1 year and 7 months from the initial application date stating to
supply them with medical exam, and an updated Letter of reference
(LOR). Does this mean that I am pretty much accepted if the medical
exams and the updated LOR are good?

3. What do they mean by updated LOR? Do they mean a recent letter from
my employer stating that I work for them, etc...? I hope it doesn't
mean all my previous employers, as well. I already sent them those
letters with my initial application. It would be a hassle to ask my
old employers for those again.

4. After you send them your medicals and updated LOR, how long does it
usually take them to respond back with "send your passport for
stamping"? Then, how long does it usually take them to return the
passport to you? Then, how much time do they give you before I have
to land in Canada?

Thank you for your help.

Default Re: Questions regarding immigrant visa stamping

1. Absolutely not. Passport will have to be valid for at least 6 months.

2. Nope, it doesn't mean that yet. It only means that officer determined
that selection decision can be made without interview, providing that
requested documents conclusively prove your claims (whatever they are). But
you are almost there as long as everything checks out, including your
background/security check that has been just now initiated.

3. Updated means LOR covering period from your application till now. If you
also worked in that period for other than your current company employers
then you should submit updated LOR from them as well.

4. It may take anywhere from 3 - 6 months to well over a year, depending how
long it will take to complete other tasks, especially background/security
check. You must land in Canada before your PR visa expires - PR visa will be
valid for up to 12 months from medicals, or less if your passport expires
sooner.
