Default questions about malaysia train and penang accomodation

I'm considering taking train from JB to KL and then KL to Butterworth.
there's a train that reach there at 7.20pm, and a train leaving for
Butterworth at 8.10pm.

Is there enough time for transiting to the train? Or should I be leaving
more allowance in case of delays?

About accomodation. looking for an air-con room in Georgetown. around RM60.
considering Hotel 1926. any suggestions?

Plenty of time to change at Kl. The new station is very modern but lacking
in atmosphere or things to do.

Maybe you should stop first for a few days or at least a day in Kuala
Lumpur, look around at scenery and that sort of stuff, or just plain
took a rest from the train ride. 7 hours of travel is an exhausting
activity and... there's no guarrante that your train will depart on
time or arrive in time.

Anyway. It's best to take a night train from Singapore to Kuala
Lumpur, and then another night train from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth
the next day or at leats few days later. And don't forget to take the
sleeping compartement type, it will provide a relatively comfortable
night accomodation during the travel.

It should be noted that every KTM trains that leave from Singapore (or
round trip travel that start and end in Singapore) will be charged in
Singapore Dollars, NOT Ringgit Malaysia. It will cost around S$ 130 to
go from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur using the First Class lower sleeping
berth of the "Express Senandung Malam" train (it's a night train),
while it will cost around RM 130 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore using
the same type of sleeping berth.

ya... i've noted the price difference. may consider crossing the causeway to
get a 50% discount.

not really interested in stopping by KL cos i've been there too many times.
straight train journeys should be no problem but then i won't be able to opt
for night trains to KL due to KL-Butterworth has only one train per day.

should be taking first class for day and second class berth for nights.

thanks a lot.

have you considered an overnighter coach to Penang from JB or Spore? They
leave Larkin Bus Station (JB) at about 9:30pm & earlier for Penang with
plenty of choice of coach companies & coach capacities/standards. Should get
you into Penang by mid-morning the next day.

A latest alternative is to book way ahead & fly Air Asia from Seletar (JB)
to Penang. Bookings can be made online at http://www.airasia.com
Prices start at a fraction of regular airlines.

I'd like to correct the previous poster.

AirAsia flies out from the Senai Airport in Johor Baru and not Seletar
as mentioned by the previous poster. Seletar Airport is in Singapore
and currently, AirAsia is not flying out from there yet... at least
not until the airport has done the necessary adjustments to its runway
to accomodate the AirAsia planes.

Kind regards,
Ad
