Question regarding Canadian citizenship
Hi,
I have a question regarding applying for Canadian Citizenship. I am
currently waiting for approval of my immigrant status under skilled
worker category. I am a consultant and my company constantly sends me
for projects in US. I come back every weekend, or every other week to
Canada. When I was reading regarding applying for citizenship I came
across this statement:
You must have lived in Canada for three years (1,095 days) within the
four years immediately before you apply.
It is my understanding, that if I was not physically present in Canada
for 3 years, I will have to go in front of Judge. I moved to Canada
(Toronto) on Jan 2nd 2005 and was physically located there until August
2005. In August I was sent to a long term project in NYC, which
requires me to spend 4-5 days a week on client site. I travel to Canada
every other weekend consistently and keep an apartment there.
Considering that the situation will continue for next 2 years (at
least), I was wondering if I will have a good chance to get citizenship
at the point of accumulating 3 years. Also, what happens if Judge rules
that I am not eligible (can I reapply and will that hurt me long term)?
Finally, I understand that I need 3 years at the point of applying.
However, I was wondering how long does it usually take (considering I
have to go in front of judge) to get citizenship from the moment CIC
gets application? Finally, would it help to own an apartment in Toronto
when it comes to Judge's decision?
Thank you so much for all of your help.
