Default POLICE CLEARANCE QUESTIONS

Hi,

I'm noticing a lot of posts lately from people wondering about police
clearances, as many countries are not included in the Table listing
countries requiring police certificates. I had the exact same
question a little while ago, as my husband's country (Slovak Republic)
is not on the list, but he has lived there his whole life (except for
one year in the US). I was advised on this board that this list is
just indicative and that certificates/clearances are required for all
countries where a person has lived for more than 6 months since
turning 18. So, we played it safe, took the advice and he got his
Slovak clearance.

But given the level of confusion on this issue, can someone, for once
and for all, please clarify this. Why does CIC even include this
table of countries, if clearances are required for every country lived
in for more than 6 months?

Advise as you say is "indicative".

The other thing being that a person should ALWAYS check the visa specific
post for more information.

These usually give more "specific" information.
