Default Police Clearance I-130 IR-1 - Canada

Hello,

I am trying to find out what the police clearance requirements are for
the Montreal consulate office for an I-130 interview for my wife. I
heard there are two types of police clearances that are issued by the
RCMP, a name checked based and a fingerprint base. I heard the name
checked based does not take very long at all (1 day or 2), however the
fingerprint based is taking in excess of 150 days now. If someone can
help me understand the process, I would really appreciate it. Will the
Montreal consulate inform us what steps to take to get the police
clearance? If a fingerprint check is required, will they book my wife's
interview appropriately, or are we supposed to be prepared in advanced?

Thanks in advance,

InstallGuy

Name check ... if there is a problem, i.e. a criminal record, they will
then ask for fingerprints. She should have name check in one hour up to
one day depending on the office used.

Fingerprint clearance will take up to 6 weeks or more. The RCMP is
backlogged from what I've heard.

When I completed mine (2002), I walked into the Windsor Ontario RCMP
(each office has established their own rules as how to obtain) and
presented the letter as to why I require a police search. I presented
ID, paid for the service and 5 to 10 minutes later was presented my
certificate. It is my understanding that if my name had a hit (for
either a crime that I committed or my name came back as having
committed a crime), I would have had to get my fingerprint taken and
the results would take some time to come back.
I interviewed at the Montreal consulate with no problems accepting the
certificate that I was presented at the RCMP office stating that there
was no record.
Good luck!

Just Information:

Hubby sent his December 20th. They stated 150+ days on the RCMP site for
fingerprints. Last time it took 92 days.

But doesn't sound like she will have to go thru the whole fingerprint
ordeal and will be able to use the local RCMP office.

Best of Luck!
