Default police clearance

Hi all,

The archives didn't seem to have an answer I was looking for. Can I
submit the police clearance (i.e. FBI clearance) after I haved
submitted my application to DIMIA? The reason for this is my
application must be received by DIMIA by a certain date and the FBI
checks won't be back before this date.

TIA

Ariel

Hi Ariel,

I´m not sure that I understand your question, but Yes, you can submit
your police checks after your applications, and actually, most
applicants wait until they are requested, generally 10 months after the
application date (at least for the skilled independent class).

Cheers and good luck...

Unless you are "frontloading" your application (in skilled migration
currently -only nurses should do this)- dont even apply for your penals
till requested by Adelaide!

The police certs get stale- i.e. too old to be acceptable to DIMIA.

In theory, fasttracked applications are the only ones that applicants
should consider frontloading. This includes Skilled Designated Area
Sponsored, which are presently fasttracked as well.

Also, frontloading is actually mandatory for onshore overseas student
skilled visa applications.

If you have lived somewhere overseas in the past and require a police
check from there that may take time to get, it's worth starting that
process before being asked. Usually Adelaide will accept older police
checks.

Although fast-tracking has not been consistently applied.

For police checks, only an Australian police check requires to be
front-loaded for onshore graduate student cases.

Missing the 6 month deadline due to waiting for an overseas police
check is another mistake made among overseas students.

Thank you all for the responses.

Jeremy, missing the 6 month deadline is not an option for me, and
frankly, that's what triggered this query. So, I will submit the
application by front-loading the Oz police clearance, and submit my
FBI clearance (which will probably be well after my deadline) once I
receive it. And thank you for the clarification.

My best to everyone,

Ariel
